Ratings summary

Ratings key, used consistently across every company report in this document:

RatingExpected total return, 12 months
BUY15% and above
HOLD−5% to 15%
SELL−5% and below

Every rating in this series is anchored to a stated reference price and date, derived from a named multiple on a named forward year, cross-checked with a second method where balance-sheet data allowed, and carries explicit upgrade/downgrade triggers. BUY/HOLD/SELL are an educational device for summarising public information — not a regulated recommendation. See the Notes section and each company's own report for full disclosure.

Status of this rating series

All fourteen companies now carry a formal rating, each with the full valuation exhibit described in the company report template — target price, scenario range, and a named methodology. Six of the fourteen (Waaree Energies, Premier Energies, Adani Green Energy, Pace Digitek, Servotech Renewable Power, ACME Solar Holdings) were added in a second research pass, after a completeness audit found the primer's initial company list — built from a source tweet's own anecdotes rather than a systematic sector screen — had missed them. A seventh candidate surfaced by that audit, Prostarm Info Systems, was researched in the same depth but placed in the context tier rather than rated, after its own disclosures showed it had just cancelled its one dedicated grid-scale BESS manufacturing initiative — see the context-tier note following the company reports.

1 BUY, 8 HOLD, 5 SELL across the fourteen companies — a deliberately mixed outcome reflecting how early and unevenly this sector's companies have actually progressed, not a uniform "the sector is a buy" or "the sector is a sell" call. Exide's BUY reflects a technology licence that was signed early enough to survive China's tightening and has since become a working plant; Neogen's SELL reflects a confirmed, rating-agency-quantified execution setback; Adani Green's SELL reflects a rich valuation (107x P/E) not supported by flat core profit growth, with storage confirmed immaterial to current earnings despite being the narrative driving at least one bullish third-party target; Pace Digitek's SELL and Servotech's SELL each reflect a specific, named disclosure or revenue-materiality problem rather than a blanket bearish view of the underlying business. See each company's own report for the full distinction.

What would change a rating, in general, across this series

For the cell-manufacturers (Exide, Amara Raja, Waaree, Premier Energies): any confirmed change to commercial-scale yield, customer qualification wins or losses, or further news on the status of their respective (or, for Waaree, entirely absent) Chinese or Western technology relationships — and, for Waaree specifically, a clear reconciliation of its two disclosed battery-business threads. For the materials layer (Gujarat Fluorochemicals, Himadri, Neogen): confirmed OEM/cell-maker qualification (positive) or a further credit-rating action (negative). For the diversified deployers (JSW Energy, Tata Power, Adani Green Energy, ACME Solar Holdings): any disclosure that materially changes storage's share of consolidated capex or revenue, or — for Adani Green specifically — a lower entry multiple or a confirmed net-debt figure that resolves the current interest-coverage concern. For Advait specifically: a second, diversified cell-supply relationship beyond Hithium, or confirmed capex/commissioning detail for the Gangad facility. For Pace Digitek: primary-source confirmation (or correction) of the NTPC-GE order's per-MWh economics. For Servotech: disclosed absolute GWh/MWh BESS capacity, or a first utility-scale project win. For all fourteen: a promoter-holding or pledge change, a further China export-control development, or new information that inverts this report's current read of the compaction-density licensing gate.
